Then a miracle occurs...

Then a miracle occurs...

...now one step closer to being a valid response in Oklahoma schools!

Late last week, the state's House of Representatives approved House Bill 2211. The bill effectively states that "if a student’s religious beliefs were in conflict with scientific theory, and the student chose to express those beliefs rather than explain the theory in response to an exam question, the student’s incorrect response would be deemed satisfactory."

The article goes on to discuss the implications, noting that "even simple, factual information such as the age of the earth (4.65 billion years) would be subject to the student’s belief, and if the student answered 6,000 years based on his or her religious belief, the school would have to credit it as correct."

With one piece of legislation, the state of Oklahoma may render the field of science pointless. Brilliant.

Never Marry a Politician

So, NY Governor Spitzer's linked to a prostitution ring? Tell me it's a mix-up? Because if you're the Governor of a prominent state, WHY oh WHY would you be involved in a prostitution ring?

And the picture shows why it SUCKS to be a politician's spouse. Stand by husband/wife's side, look as demure and unconditionally supportive as possible. I wonder if there are ever instances when the spouse absolutely refuses to face the public when his/her partner is acknowledging something humiliating or private about their personal lives.

But anyway, the lesson is this - don't marry a politician.

[ personal note ]

I've decided that I'm done being analytical about news. It's enough for me to keep in the loop, but unless the fancy strikes, I probably won't be writing detailed arguments about political issues. Then again, I will probably have those days when I feel like elaborating and going off on a long tangent about one issue or another... But until then, expect most of my posts (whenever they do appear) to resemble my last few posts... Then again, if my fellow contributors, and by that I probably just mean Jason, want to write something actually worth reading, I'd be honored to have that on this blog alongside my pointless commentary on random news stories.
