Blasts from the Past... and Tomorrow

Remember Judith Miller? (Background on Plamegate) She went to prison for not revealing a secret source. Now, her source has released her from their verbal contract and she's cooperating with special prosecuter Patrick Fitzgerald. I always find it funny when a newspaper has to write about themself, so here's the New York Times article:

Judith Miller, the New York Times reporter who has been jailed since July 6 for refusing to testify in the C.I.A. leak case, was released from a Virginia detention center this afternoon after she and her lawyers reached an agreement with a federal prosecutor to testify before a grand jury investigating the matter, the paper's publisher and executive editor said.

Ms. Miller was freed after spending more than 12 weeks in jail, during which she refused to cooperate with the criminal inquiry. Her decision to testify came after she obtained what she described as a waiver offered "voluntarily and personally" by a source who said she was no longer bound by any pledge of confidentiality she had made to him. She said the source had made clear that he genuinely wanted her to testify.

That source was I. Lewis Libby, Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff, according to people who have been officially briefed on the case.

I'm not quite sure what this means. I saw this on the Yahoo News Associated Press wire minutes after the story was out. Does this mean "Scooter" Libby is confident enough that he will not get in trouble? Or even better... he and Karl and everybody else were offered full presidential pardons.

If you will recall, gay marriage was approved by the ELECTED California state legislature (decaffed here). I think we always expected the Gubernator to veto it, but now that he has... it's still infuriating.

And in unrelated news... The seventeenth Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States is officially John G. Roberts.

Eh, after hours of organizing college application paperwork and filing the current events binder, I'm too tired. You boys can tackle any of the above. DECAF picture tomorrow at lunch, y'all know what to wear. *sigh* I should take Victor shopping and give him a makeover. Metro Victor!!! ^.-
