Hold on...

... I'm trying to recover from literally rolling on the floor laughing

From The New York Times:

"While it's perfectly legitimate to criticize my decisions or the conduct of the war, it is deeply irresponsible to rewrite the history of how that war began," the president said in a Veterans Day speech in Pennsylvania.

After I got over the hillarity of it all... I tried to read on, only to find myself giggling like Jon Stewart:

Mr. Bush delivered his aggressive and unusually long speech as part of an effort to shore up his credibility as he faces growing public skepticism about Iraq and accusations by Democrats and others that he led the nation into war on false pretenses.

Those accusations seem to be making a dent in public confidence in him, as public opinion polls show more people questioning the president's honesty about Iraq and about whether American troops should remain in the fight.

Yeah, I'm "adding insult to injury," but HE's the injury.

Does he NOT get it? When prominent Republican Senator (and onetime favorite Republican forerunner for 2000 presidential elections before his campaign was hijacked by Rove & Co.) John McCain starts calling for a CHANGE, that's like GOP-speak of "We're more screwed than Clinton's interns, so let's stop this political self-annihilation." From the Washington Post:

In the aftermath of fresh bombings yesterday in Baghdad and Tikrit, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) added his voice to those calling for a new focus. He said the emphasis up to now on rooting out insurgent strongholds through widespread, short-duration raids -
- what he termed "sweeping and leaving" -- is not working.

"Rather than focusing on killing and capturing insurgents, we should emphasize protecting the local population, creating secure areas where insurgents find it difficult to operate," the senator said in a speech at the American Enterprise Institute, a conservative think tank. He added that such an approach would require more troops and resources, arguing against the idea of reducing U.S. forces in Iraq next year.

I disagree, but this still goes to show that whatever is going on right now is NOT doing anything. I thought this current president was a man of Action, with the capital "A" but all he has done is adhered stubbornly to his policies, even when situations call for a change in policy.

The Emperor has no clothes...

... and it's not a pretty sight.

And from the one and only Tom Toles:
