Equality vs. Respect

You turn on the radio some days and all you hear is equality, respect, humanity. People fling them around like they each mean the same. The feminist movement loves to demand equality especially. But is this what they want or need?

Bill Gates is not equal to the guy serving his hamburgers. There's no way around it. Yet, the world cannot survive without people like either. You need your rich bastards, and you need your poor blokes to actually do the job. Bill Gates does not want to serve his own hamburgers; nor would anyone else in his stature. The poor want to become rich, and the rich want to stay rich. True equality means conformity, and that is simply not a good idea. The individuality of characters like Thomas Edison, Andrew Jackson, and many others shaped America into what she is today. Of course, Dubya's individuality has also changed our history irreversibly, but that's another post. None of these people were equal, either in status or intellectual ability, compared to your average redneck. Society requires a lower class. When agriculture was developed, human innovation began. Why? Because when food and basic survival are taken care of, there is time to do other things - sex, more sex, and thinking. All this on the backs of farmers.

What these movements actually want is respect. Bill Gates' hamburger boy knows there's zero chance in a trillion that he's going to be as rich as Gates himself. So he's a bit jealous. But as long as Bill isn't treating him like an asshole, the hamburger boy will keep his jealousy to himself. Respect, not equality.

So the next time a bunch of gay rights activists or fervent feminists bang at your door demanding you hear them out, remember that they aren't asking you to like gays or worship women. Although they would be very pleased if either of those two happened, all they want is for you to respect them, and not introduce them to the business end of your sawed-off shotgun. When you tell those protesters to fuck off, remember that it's not because you hate gay people and feminists, but because they're on your bloody property and you want them to get the hell out.

I actually heard an oratory about how tolerance is bad because it's like conformity. *sigh* I still can picture him. Tall, professional, and redneck Bell Boy.
